Description

Purpose / objective:   Help visitors navigate our exhibits and provide supplementary information regarding objects on display. You are expected to be the accessible, public face of the museum.

 

Location:  Within the main museum building, either on the first or second floor of the Maine building, the Space Rocks or Discovery Gallery.

 

Key responsibilities:  To ensure that visitors to the Museum have a positive experience while maintaining a safe environment and protecting the Museum’s collections and loans.  Be available for visitor questions and directions in each of the four galleries, to promote the smooth flow of people around the building, and to assist with emergency procedures. To look out for suspicious behavior and engage visitors in casual conversation regarding exhibits and contents.

 

Time Commitment:  A minimum of 2 x 4 hour shifts each month (seasonably adjustable, inclusive of a thirty-day trial period.) Ongoing and renewable.

 

Qualifications:   You must have good people skills, be happy to work with the public, be comfortable with others and have a general interest in the locality, history, rocks, gems, minerals or meteorites.

 

Training:    Knowledge about the exhibits will be provided along with training in how to give tours and emergency procedures. The gallery manual covering all permanent exhibits will be provided along with supplemental reading.
