Volunteer: Transportation Specialist (Driver) Volunteer - Blood Services - Portland, Maine Areaurn your compassion into action when you volunteer as a Blood Transportation Specialist with the Red Cross! Cruise into making a difference by donating a few hours of your time each week. As a member of our Blood Transportation Team, you can serve as a critical link in getting blood donations to those who need them by helping to drive blood products. Position Description: Deliver life-saving blood donations to local hospitals to help patients in need. As a volunteer driver, you become a hero, delivering not just blood, but hope and life itself.Our user-friendly mobile app empowers you to seamlessly schedule shifts and make deliveries ensuring that blood, platelets, and other critical blood products get to hospitals swiftly.There are 2 types of routes:Hospital Deliveries: From our American Red Cross facility in Portland, ME, departing at 7am, begin your delivery to hospitals to the east or north of Portland, depending on which route you selected, arriving at the hospital for delivery and providing safe hand off of the blood at the hospital blood bank.All delivery routes are approximately 4-4.5 hours and 140-170 miles roundtrip.Donor Room Pickups: From our American Red Cross facility in Portland, ME, departing in late afternoon, drive to the Auburn ME Donor Room to pick-up blood donation collections for the day and return the product to Portland in order to begin the process of lab testing as part of the readiness of the blood for hospital distribution.All delivery routes are approximately 2 hours and 80 miles roundtrip.You will have access to Red Cross delivery vehicles to deliver to perform these delivery or pickup functionsEvery trip you make saves lives.To become a life saver, all you need is: A valid state driver's license and proof of insurance3 years driving experience and a clean driving recordTo be comfortable using a mobile app and smart phoneThe ability to lift up to 45lbsSpecifically, we need drivers for: morning delivery routes Monday through Friday...we are expanding with new routes on Tuesdayafternoon pickups are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday...with primary support needed Thursdaythere are no weekend routesReady to get started?
