Who We Are

Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) is a long-standing community anchor dedicated to reducing poverty, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for people across central Maine. Guided by its mission to support individuals and families in meeting their basic needs and achieving greater stability, KVCAP delivers services that empower people to build healthier, more secure lives. The agency’s vision is a region where everyone has access to safe housing, reliable transportation, economic opportunity, and the resources needed to thrive. KVCAP works toward this future through collaborative community partnerships, evidence-based programs, and an unwavering commitment to dignity and equity. Founded in 1965 as part of the national Community Action movement, KVCAP has grown from a small grassroots effort into one of Maine’s largest social service agencies. Over the decades, it has expanded its work to include early childhood education, housing and homelessness prevention, energy assistance, transportation, financial coaching, and a variety of stabilizing supports that help families navigate challenges and build long-term well-being.
