Restorative Justice Project Maine

Who We Are

The Restorative Justice Project Maine is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2005.

Our mission is to offer the people of Maine better ways to prevent and respond to crime, wrongdoing, and conflict—ways that heal, restore relationships, and make communities safer.

Through programs, policy, and education, we seek to promote a justice that is community-based, repairs harm, and creates safety and wellbeing for all.

What We Do

At Restorative Justice Project Maine, we promote restorative justice with two program areas: Harm Repair and Restorative Reentry.

Our Harm Repair program offers a high-accountability, high-support alternative to conventional criminal legal processes for youth and young adults. With facilitated dialogues, mentoring, and the co-creation of a Harm Repair Agreement, our approach centers empathy and accountability. Restorative justice empowers young people to reflect, take responsibility, and actively participate in finding a solution, helping them avoid further involvement with the courts or law enforcement.

Our Restorative Reentry program applies restorative principles and practices to the reentry journey following incarceration. In partnership with the Waldo County Reentry Center and District VI Treatment Court, we offer community-building and skill-building opportunities to support a successful reentry.
