Cat Life Maine is a volunteer-powered, foster-based nonprofit dedicated to creating lasting solutions for Maine's cats. We believe every cat—whether a beloved pet, a frightened stray, or a community cat born outdoors—deserves compassion, quality care, and the chance to live a healthy life. Founded on the belief that prevention is just as important as rescue, our work extends far beyond adoption. We specialize in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), neonatal and critical-care kittens, foster care, community education, pet retention, and programs that keep cats with the families who love them whenever possible. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but we share one common goal: reducing preventable suffering through compassion, education, and action. Every trapped cat, every bottle-fed kitten, every transport, every adoption, and every conversation with a community member helps create a future where fewer cats are born into homelessness and more find a safe place to belong. As an entirely volunteer-run organization, every success is made possible by people who choose to give their time, talents, and hearts to this work. Together, we are building stronger communities—for cats and for the people who care about them.

Cat Life Maine is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Maine's cats through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), neonatal kitten rescue, foster care, adoption, community education, and pet retention programs. Our mission is simple: Every Maine cat deserves a place to belong. Each year we assist hundreds of cats across central and eastern Maine. While many people know us for rescuing orphaned kittens, our greatest impact comes from preventing suffering before it begins. Through our certified TNR program, we humanely reduce community cat populations, improve public health, and prevent the birth of thousands of kittens who would otherwise face homelessness. We also operate community programs including a monthly Community Cat Pantry, low-cost spay/neuter transportation, emergency foster care through our PAWS in Place program for families experiencing crisis, and Hissy Spitty Kitty University, where undersocialized kittens learn to trust people and prepare for adoption. Because we are entirely volunteer-powered, every hour donated directly helps save lives. Whether someone spends an afternoon cleaning, helps transport cats to veterinary appointments, assists at fundraising events, photographs adoptable cats, or supports our retail adoption center, volunteers make every part of our mission possible. We welcome volunteers of all experience levels and provide training, mentorship, and opportunities that match individual interests and abilities. Whether someone has a few hours each month or wants to become deeply involved in animal welfare, there is a meaningful way to make a difference. Together, we are building healthier communities for both cats and the people who care about them.
