Description

Gallery tour guides provide accessible, educational tours of the indoor museum spaces to smaller groups of guests. They interpret the story of wooden shipbuilding in Maine and the Percy & Small Shipyard using the artifacts, paintings, and stories on display throughout the museum. Their tour also seamlessly joins with the outdoor Percy & Small shipyard tour, providing depth and background information of the unique story Maine Maritime Museum tells.


Primary Responsibilities

Complete Gallery Tour Guide Training. This includes specific training hours over the course of at least two sessions in late April/early May.

Complete the a Gallery Tour leadership/staff-shadowed tour before giving tours to the public.

Give 30-minute tours of the Shipbuilder's and McEvoy galleries that tell the history and local and global significance of the museum site.

Commit to at least three tours per year to maintain guide status.

Log all volunteer hours into the museum volunteer management software, Better Impact. Training is provided.
